An Interview With Cory Godbey

ca61 An Interview With Cory GodbeyHi Cory, let’s start with your artistic background. Were you the kid in school always known for his artistic ability? Did you go on to study art?

A story I’ve told a few times is that when I was in kindergarten we had a little project where we had to draw what we wanted to be when we grew up. I had no idea what I wanted so I just started drawing. I ended up drawing a policeman with one of those old hats, the ones with the badge on the front. I distinctly remember setting my pencil down and thinking, “Man, that’s a good looking hat!” After that my abiding memory of school was doodling in my books, looking up, not knowing what was going on, and then getting back to doodling. I never played sports much or anything like that, I just liked to draw. From there I went on like most people interested in drawing, I took art classes in high school and majored in art in college. The Moo Promo Cards Have Landed

I’ve not had chance to post on the blog so far this week due to other work commitments, but I’ll be more than making up for it with an interview (hopefully) next week with amazing illustrator Cory Godbey of Portland Studios.

If you’d like a sneak peak preview of the interview, be sure to sign up to the free newsletter (over there on the right) as that’s where it will appear first before it hits the blog.

In other news, I received my Moo promo note cards through the post a few days ago and I’m really pleased with them (you never quite know what is going to come back from online printers, but these were spot on).

I have some tweaks to make to the portfolio before sending them out, but it really feels like things are moving forward now and it’s very exciting!

Here’s a peak at my new promo cards:

Chris Oatley’s Art Cast

If I get chance tomorrow, I’ll come back to this post and flesh it out a little to describe what each podcast is about individually – they are all worth checking out though!

Week In Review & The Week Ahead 18th-24th May

Another week full of design and website client work has flown by leaving little time for my planned self indulgent week of sketching and experimentation.

With the limited time I had this week, I really had to make it count and so focused on outreach and other more practical aspects of launching my illustration career instead (which is what I should have been planning to do all along really anyway!). Read more
