Illustration Friday: Double

I’m sure most readers of zero2illo will already know all about the excellent Illustration Friday, but just in case…Illustration Friday is the creation of super talented Illustrator Penelope Dullaghan and offers up illustration challenges each week (on a Friday!) in the form of a word on which participants base an illustration and upload it to the site.

Taking part in Illustration Friday is not only a great way to practice working on live projects with a real deadline, but it’s also a safe place to experiment and try out new styles and mediums without the pressure of an Art Director breathing down your neck.

You also never know who’s looking at the work submitted to Illustration Friday either!

This weeks topic is ‘Double’ and here’s my contribution…’One For Sorrow, Two For Joy’

Medium: Traditional cut paper collage

The birds are spectacular! I like the title too. It inspires me to try something on the same theme.

I love participating in IF. It’s such a great exercise, not only because you produce something new on a regular basis, but also you see what other creative people are doing.

I submitted a tiny illustration every week for almost two years in a row and after that now and then… and even if I didn’t spend many time on each one, you can tell the difference between the first ones and the last ones. I’ve seen amateur illustrators grow into terrific professionals that I deeply admire today. This is definitely a good way to go.

I like you collage a lot, BTW. Great textures and color scheme!

Such a poetic work piece..I’m amazed that’s collage of papers. Different patterns and textures of papers join altogether and make it so strong.! Reminds me of those some traditional art of Korea as well, perhaps because of the papers. :-)

Just Beautiful, Jonathan! I love birds, and crows, magpies and ravens are my favorites! I have been too sporadic with IF but it is a wonderful challenge.

Thank you everyone for such lovely comments – they really do mean a lot.

@Rev.v.AME – Wow, participating in IF for nearly 2 years every week! That is a huge accomplishment and I can imagine looking back at each piece it was a great diary of your progression as an illustrator.

@Robin – Thanks Robin – great to connect with another collage artist (your work is FANTASTIC btw) – the magpie collage is about 150x200mm. I only work in trad collage and have lots more work on my website if you’d like to take a look – I’d love you’re feedback as you’re very accomplished in the media http://www.jonathanwoodwardstudio.com

@Weylon – Thanks Weylon – how’s that beautiful baby girl of yours doing? Melting your heart every day I’d imagine :)
